Critical Question: How can I use my five senses to write?
Task: The class will practice writing descriptions by using their five senses. Each student will then write a descriptive paragraph about a mystery place. Based on the paragraph the students should be able to identify the place. Each paragraph should include the five senses.
To write a detailed, effective description, authors can begin by asking questions about the setting, character or object they are going to write about. They may ask about: color, size, shape, age, smell, sound, condition, material, texture, etc.
Example: When writing about an object, ask these questions:
How big is it?
How old is it?
What is is made out of?
Whom did it belong to?
What was it used for?
What color is it?
