Critical Question: How can I write a great beginning to my story?
Task: The students will be able to identify four different ways to write a great beginnings, and then practice them in their weekly writing jam.
Four New Ways to Begin!
1. Start with an exclamation.
"I'm soaked!" I yelled as I reached for the large glass mall entrance doors.
2. Start with a thought or feeling.
As I approached the mall, I nervously glanced at my watch and wondered what my first day on the job would be like.
3. Start with an attention getting sound.
Splish! Splash! My boots sloshed through the puddles as I ran for the mall entrance.
4. Start with an action.
I splashed across the mall parking lot, yanked open the tall glass door, and, dripping wet, stepped into the mall.
