Story Endings

Critical Question: How can I write great endings to my stories?

Task: The students will be able to identify great elements to a story ending, and use them in their own writing.

The ending of a story is a very important part of the writing process. The ending makes a final impression on the reader. It should sum up the events of the story and show the reader how the main character has grown and changed as a result of the story.

Here are some elements that could be included in the end of a story:

1. a memory of the main event

ex: I'll never forget the time that I explored the cave.

2. a hope or a wish

ex. I hope the next time that I go exploring is not as terrifying as this trip.

3. a feeling about what took place

ex. I can still feel the chill tingling down my spine when I remember getting lost in the cave.

4. a decision from the main event

ex. From that day on, I decided I would never go exploring alone.
