About the story |
Moose's dad takes a job at Alcatraz Island so the family can be close to a special school for his sister. Moose understands why the family moves, but he's not happy about turning his life upside down. Can anything good really happen while living on an island that houses the country's worst criminals? Can Moose ever find friends when people are more interested in seeing baseballs used by convicts and the infamous Al Capone doing their laundry? |
My opinion |
A well written historical fiction that gives the reader a look at what life on Alcatraz Island was like and how a boy deals with his autistic sister's disability. My friends would enjoy reading this book. |

About the story |
It is now August 1935 and Moose and his family are still living on 'The Rock'. Moose begins to get worried when he receives more notes from Al Capone. Moose can't risk telling anyone about the notes, but his sister Natalie may get kicked out of the special school she's in and his dad could get fired. The kids on Alcatraz will have to band together to over come some medical emergencies and a problem with the prisoners. Will Moose and Piper ever get to see Al Capone? You'll need to read to find out! |
My opinion |
Now that we know all the characters it's fun to watch them interact and help each other cope with things on the island. Although there is some mature content, I think even my friends who didn't read the first book would enjoy reading this one. There is a lot more mystery and suspense. |

About the story |
Finding her home in foreclosure, Mrs. Tompkins puts her three children on a plane to Colorado where they’ll find a home with their Uncle Red. 14-year-od India, 12-year-old Finn and 6-year-old Mouse all have good reasons for being upset about this trip. But when the plane lands early and strange things start to happen to them, the siblings must work together to overcome all the roadblocks being thrown in the way. |
My opinion |
An incredible story that weaves together family adversity, teenaged angst, a pink taxi with feathers, a white cat, a black box, a clock that counts backwards and a magic phone, in a way that leads to a shocking ending. |

About the story |
Kirsten and Walker are starting 7th grade at Mountain School. Kirsten is a member of an affluent family. Walk lives with his mother in the inner city and attends the private school on a scholarship. Kirsten has a lot to deal with, her parents are fighting, she’s gained 30 lbs and her best friend would rather hang out with the popular girls she used to hate. Walk is dealing with being the new kid who is the only African American in the 7th grade. This seams like more that enough for both kids, so will they be able to cope when Kirsten stumbles upon so information that could complicate their lives even more. |
My opinion |
A fast paced book that kept the reader interested. It covered a lot of different middle school issues from the student perspective, which was great. |
