About the story |
A young reporter is given the task of writing a story about a famous violinist on his 50th birthday. She is warned that she can not ask him 'the Mozart question'. To her surprise he feels it is time to explain why he would not answer 'the Mozart question'. You will have to read the story to learn the answer. |
My opinion |
This was a very moving story that gives a straightforward look into the horrors of the Holocaust. This would be a wonderful book to start out a discussion on life in concentrations camps. |

During a storm, Michael and his dog Stella are swept overboard and end up on a small island full of gibbons and orangutans. An old Japanese soldier Kensuke, who has been there since WWII, also inhabits the island. They soon learn to coexist and eventually Kensuke helps Michael build a signal fire that brings the Peggy Sue back to the island to rescue Michael and Stella. About the story |
After being separated from his mother at a horse auction, Joey becomes a workhorse, and a devoted pet to Albert, on a farm in England. In 1914, the beginning of WWI, Joey is sold to the cavalry. Both Joey and Albert are heart broken and hope to one day find each other again. Joey begins to doubt this as he travels to the Western Front where he is sent charging into battle, made to pull hospital wagons and large cannon, all of this through mud and cold with little food or rest. See war through the eyes of a horse. Will Joey’s desire to find Albert again help him survive or will the hardships of war prove too much for him? |
My opinion |
This is a very well written story that draws the reader in with vivid descriptions and a candid look at war. |
