His English name is Luke, his Eskimo name is not easy to pronounce. In 1960, because their village has no school, Luke and his two younger brothers are sent from their Iñupiaq village located in the Arctic Circle to a Catholic boarding school in the Alaskan Interior. Told through the view point of Luke and some of his classmates and based on actual events, the reader gains an understanding of what life was like in Alaska during that time period. |

This is a powerful, and very well written story. This book is a 2011 National Book Award Finalist. |
