Informational Meetings
for new families interested in enrolling their child at CLC next year
Tuesday, April 11 at 7:00 p.m. and
Thursday, April 20 at 7:00 p.m.

Application deadline for new families is April 28. Remember that current CLC siblings have priority placement, but I need to have confirmation of enrollment for next year by the April 28 deadline, so we know how many openings we have to fill.
The Lottery will be held April 28 at 5:00

Parent Meeting / Board Meeting

Thursday, March 23, at 7:00 p.m.

Topic: The Future of CLC
Where are we headed?

As always, you are invited to stay for the Board Meeting immediately following the Parent Meeting.

Library Volunteers Needed

The library is making another drive for volunteers! The year got off to a pretty good start but lately an increase in the pile of books to be added to the collection has made our need for volunteers more apparent. Our goal - make as many books available for our students to sign out as possible.
For our new books here is what needs to be done...New books need cards and pockets, then information for each new book is added to our database. Simple! Once you have processed one book it is a snap! An hour a week means that that many more books become available to be signed out by our students!
To sign up or further information contact Glenn at 861-7980 (I'll return your call) or at glenn@clccharter.org

Young Reader's Choice Award

A collection of 31 books was introduced to the classrooms in mid-November for the Young Reader's Choice Award vote. Students were encouraged to set reading goals and to read as many of the books as possible. By the time the vote took place during the first week of March, CLC students had read, or been read , and incredible total of 507 books! An avid reader, Team 3's Aaron determinedly read ALL of the books from both collections! En, also from Team 3, read all 15 books in the grades 3-6 category, while Adam, from Team 1, read a total of 24 books from both categories. And the winners are... Siverwing in the 3-6 grade category and Holes in the 6-8 grade category. Congratulations to All of the CLC students who contributed to this project - keep reading!

Heifer Project/T-shirts

As part of their continuing fund raising effort, the Heifer Project committee is planning to sell CLC T-shirts.
Jesse Lehman, presented the idea to the students at a community meeting before Spring Break and challenged them to create a T-shirt design that would represent CLC and what we are all about. The deadline for the design has been extended to Monday, 3/20. So far, we only have 2 entries. If your child is interested, please encourage them to submit a design before the deadline. If their design is chosen, they would receive a free T-shirt. You, as members of the the community, are also invited to submit an entry. Maybe this could be a fun collaborative effort for you and your child!

After School Update

As a result of the after school survey responses, the CLC after school program will be adding a quiet work period Monday through Thursday. For the first hour of after school (Monday - Thursday), the upstairs space will be a quiet space for students who need to do school work. If parents want their child to work during that period, please call or email Brian (brian@clccharter.org) with the days your child should participate. An after school worker will be designated to check in with each student who is supposed to do work that day. We hope that CLC parents will take advantage of this opportunity. If you feel that your child should be spending more time on homework at the CLC after school program, please contact Brian so he knows which days your child should be working.

Rocket Club to Relaunch

Spring is here and therefore the CLC Rocket Club is ready to start up again. The meetings will take place on Thursdays after school from 3:15 to 4:15 in Glenn's room. The first meeting will be on March 30. Members can bring a rocket of their own to build, or purchase one from the club at a minimal cost. This was a very popular club in the fall and we are looking forward to get it off the ground again.

Lunch in the Park

Wednesday, April 19 is "project transition day" for CLC students. The day is designed to give the students closure on their current project and an introduction to the project they are switching to next. Glenn and Theresa are designing a "Geography" activity that will take the students to Holmes Foster Park for part of the day. We are planning to have all of the students eat lunch at the park that day and invite all you to join us. We eat lunch in the pavilion in the upper part of the park from 11:30-12:30. Remember to send a lunch that day that does not require a microwave.

Music Lessons

It's not too late to sign your child up for after school music lessons. If you are still interested, please call Mr. Flarkey at
231-4056

School Trip

This year's trip is scheduled for Monday, June 5, to Washington, D.C. We will leave very early in the morning and return late that same evening. If you would like to join us, please let me know. We would love to have at least 5 parent volunteers to each chaperone a small group of students as they explore. The more adults, the smaller the adult to student ratio.
