Washington, D.C. Trip

It's getting so close I can smell the Cherry Blossoms! As I wrote in April's newsletter, our plan is to leave CLC at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, June 5. We will be dropped off on the Mall and spend the day exploring the area and museums. We expect to return to CLC around 11:00 p.m. that evening. Next week your child will bring home a permission slip, which must be signed, along with more detailed information. Parents who signed up to chaperone the trip will also receive more information next week.

2nd Lottery

Our second admissions lottery will be held on Thursday, May 25 at 5:00 p.m. We currently have a few openings in our new class for next year and a few more spaces in upper grades.

CLC t-shirts

The Heifer Project committee is holding one last fundraiser for the year to raise money for world hunger. We're selling CLC t-shirts! The shirts will be $10.00 and they will be on sale beginning Monday, May 22 at lunch and after school in the office. The shirts will also be available at the May parent meeting.

Webster's Book Talks

On Tuesday, May 30th, a group of students from Team II will be heading down to Webster's Book Store to present "Book Talks". Although we have not established a specific time for the event, we anticipate that it will run from 10:30 to 1:30. If you have some time, please stop in and join us. It should be a very literate day.

Field Day and Family Picnic at Holmes Foster Park

Yoga Club

Congratulations and thank you to all the students who participated in Yoga Club this spring. In Monday afternoon sessions, students learned hatha yoga postures and posture flows, which students are using to create their own posture flows. Each student will present and teach their flows to the group at the final session on Monday, May 22. A special thanks goes to Ryan Bisbey and Elizabeth Stitt, the founding members of the club.

Field Day and Family Picnic

We are planning to spend the afternoon (and early evening) of Wednesday, June 7 at Holmes Foster Park (upper level) for a end of the year community celebration. The afternoon will be spent playing active games as part of "field day" with activities organized by some students. This will be followed by a family potluck around 5:30 and some early evening family fun. Please plan to meet us at the park as early as you can. Everyone's welcome! More details innext Friday's "mail".

Rocket Club Launch a Success!

On Sunday, May 13th about 20 members of the CLC Rocket Club met at the Mt. Nittany Middle School grounds for their final launch of the year. The weather was clear but we found out quickly that the winds were much faster than we though at higher altitudes. The higher the rockets soared the farther the parachutes were taken by the winds and recovering rockets involved a long walk, or a climb up a tree! Over 50 launches of all sorts, shapes, and sizes of model rockets took place on Sunday!
The Rocket Club would like to extend its sincere thanks to George Lesieurte. Mr. Lesieurte invited the club to an aerospace engineering lab on campus where various model rocket engines were tested. The members got a close look at how these engines function. Measurements were taken that sampled the thrust delivered by the different sizes of engines. Everyone enjoyed the experience.
The Rocket Club would also like to thank Jim Morrow. Mr. Morrow joined us after school to help us build our model rockets. His help during launch day was also invaluable. Thank you Jim - we wish you many continued successful return trips of your spectacular "Silver Comet"!
On a final note, Glenn is going to pick a date sometime during the summer for a summer launch date. If you are in town, please feel free to join us with your rocket or just your binoculars. Check your email later in the month for details about this event!

4-H Club Report
by Cody Musser

The 4-H club recently completed the project "Generation Celebration". In this project, the club members learned about their attitudes toward the elderly and how the elderly are depicted to us by the media. The students visited Foxdale Village to meet residents and learn about them through their life stories. Some of the members also interviewed their parents and grandparents to learn more about their own family history. For the last meeting of the project, club members returned to Foxdale to have dinner with the residents they had interviewed and share with them what they had learned. Everyone involved had a wonderful time.
The club also had a special presenation by Malena Moore's mother, sister, and nephews about what it was like to be a child many years ago. Mrs. Moore brought in lots of great gadgets and old memorabilia to show us so we could understand her generation better.
CLC 4-H members who participated in this project were Mary Baumer, Wendy Brown, Erin Gallagher, Chelsey Musser, Cody Musser, and David Stokes. foxdale Village residents who we met were Nancy Austin, Paul benner, Russell Fisher, Dorothy Hunter, Susan McKnoght, and Isabelle Oakwood.
Our next project is Pet Care and we learn more about our own pets and how to take care of them.
