Project Block News...
Teams 3 & 4 are working on a 10 week project on Geology and Water. Students working in Theresa's room are focused on the water section of this project. "Glass has continued to fly left and right in the world of water. We had a expert come to answer all our deep questions and stimulate our curiosity." In Glenn's room students are learning about the earth's structure, which has turned out to be quite tasty! Some of the students chose to use food to represent their nontechnical interactive diagram. To view some of the students' work, visit http://clccharter.org/~glenn/geology/earth.htm
This week students are finishing their first round of "basic generalist certification" for water and earth. Upon receiving certification students who have been working in Glenn's room will move to Theresa's and vice versa. We're expecting great things to emerge!!

Meanwhile, Teams 1 & 2 have been hard at work on their Space and Time project. The CLCSA (Centre Learning Community Space Association) Space History Timeline will be completed in the next few weeks. The timeline will help visitors to CLCSA better understand the major events that have occurred in space science history. It will also serve to provide a context for these events. When completed, the timeline exhibit will take up most of the wall space on the second floor and a large portion of the big room, and it will document space science history from the Big Bang to the International Space Station. Once finished with timeline requirements, the students will move on to special department work at CLCSA. Working in small teams of two or three, CLCSA "employees" are responsible for developing a special department which supports the CLCSA mission of space science education and exploration. For more information on the requirements for chartering a department, please see Mark's site at http://clccharter.org/~mark/projects/space/deptprop.htm .

New Facility
We are continuing to make progress on our efforts to acquire a new facility for CLC. Mellon Bank has agreed to work with the CLC to provide funding for the purchase and our Board has approved a letter of commitment to allow Mellon to finalize details in regard to financing. These are exciting times at CLC!

The 7th graders are starting a new fundraising project to raise money for their class trip next year. Bagels will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 8:10 a.m. on Mondays beginning 4/9/01 in the Big Room. A regular bagel without cream cheese will cost $1.00. Cream cheese is an extra 50 cents. There will also be orange juice and milk for 25 cents a cup. There are no pre-order forms to fill out and no accounts will be set up for credit purchases.
