ADJECTIVES!

An adjective is a word that modifies, or describes, a noun or a pronoun.

Ex. I saw a creepy movie last night! (creepy describes the movie I saw)

Proper adjective is an adjective that is formed from a proper noun. A proper adjective always begins with a capital letter.

Ex. Proper Noun- Africa the Proper Adjective - African

Demonstrative adjective tells which one. The words this, that, these, and those are demonstrative adjectives.

Ex. This book has more illustrations than those magazines.

Predicate adjective is an adjective that follows a linking verb and describes the subject of a sentence. Forms of be are the most common linking verbs. Other linking verbs include forms of taste, feel, look, smell, appear, seem, and become.

Ex: I look tired, but I feel fine.

Comparison with Adjectives:
er, est, more, most, less, and least

Positive degree is used when no comparison is being made- ex. This day is hot.
Comparative degree is used to compare two items. Form the comparative of most one-syllable adjectives by adding er.
Superlative degree is used to compare three or more items. Form the superlative degree by adding est.
Other comparisons use more or less and most or least.
Some adjectives have special forms for comparing. They change the spelling completely in the comparative and the superlative degrees.
