Make a Board Game

You have been hired by DK Toy Enterprises to develop an educational board game for 5th and 6th grade students.

Your game must be based on the vocabulary words and story elements from one of the following novels: Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, 21 Balloons, or Cheaper By the Dozen. Our design team has developed the following guidelines to help you to create a quality board game for our company.

1. Create a rough draft of your board design that includes:
start, end, place for vocabulary cards, sketch of board design, name/logo of your game

2. Create a rough draft of your other materials:

box cover design, pieces that will be used to move around the board, card design/layout

3. Write a draft of game rules that includes the following information:

Sections Headings: name of your game, equipment, goal of game, setup of game, start of game, how to win the game, number of players, additional rules of game as needed.

Be sure to include details that go with each of these headings. Write in complete sentences. Have a friend edit your rules for clarity and completeness.

Rules are typed up, edited for spelling/grammar, heading/detail font sizes are consistent and appropriate.

Board, Box, Game Pieces

Design relates to the novel's plot.

Materials are durable (you may use a board and/or box from another game, but you need to recover it and create your own design).

Graphics are computer designed (if hand-done, artwork must be of high quality).

Path is designed in a consistent/standardized pattern.

Game name/logo enhances the board game.

Money (if needed) is of original design (not from another game).

Vocabulary Words

Game includes vocabulary words in a fun way.

Vocabulary words are spelled correctly.

Vocabulary definitions are correct.

Card design/layout makes sense.

Game Concept

Game is fun to play.

Game is original.

Game relates to the novel.
