Cell City Challenge

Yum, pizza...! Did you know that a pizza restaurant and each of the cells in your body have something in common? Yup, they do. Let me explain....

Imagine that you are walking into a pizza restaurant. Smell the cheese and pepperoni pizzas baking in the ovens. See customers sitting at tables, the chef in the kitchen, the waiters moving between the tables, and piles of boxes ready to be delivered to people's homes. Hear music playing in the background and people laughing and talking. There is a lot going on in a pizza parlor, just like there's a lot going on inside of the cells in your body.

Cells, the basic units of life, can be compared to a pizza parlor, a factory, or even an entire city because cells work together to make your body operate like a well-run restaurant, factory, or city.

During this Cell City Challenge you will learn about what cells do, what they look like, and then you will work with a team to create a three dimensional, metaphorical model of a cell.

Let's start by watching a Tim and Moby movie about cells.

Then you can move on to Part One: Learn About Cell Structures.

Then complete Part Two: Build a Cell City.
