~a character enters who guides the hero, offers advice or
teaches the hero
~this character can be friendly or mean
~the mentor might not show up until after the threshold |

Threshold
~the moment when things get very strange
~because this is the moment that the hero begins the journey
and goes somewhere new and VERY different from his/her ordinary world

Allies (Friends)
~the hero meets allies (friends) who help him or her along
the journey and may travel with the hero
|

Enemies (Foes)
~ the hero must
face enemies (foes) who get in the way of him/her reaching their goal
|
|
Tests, Trials, Challenges, Obstacles
~along the journey, the hero is tested and challenged by
things that make him/her change as a person, grow up, and learn something new
~this could also be things that get in the way of the Hero's
goal

|
Approach to innermost cave
~the moment just before the biggest challenge of the journey
~the moment where the hero has to face a bad fear or deal
with some part of their personality that gets in their way (flaws)

Great ordeal
~the biggest battle/challenge/test/ or trial of the heroÕs
story
|
|
The road home
~there are often more challenges before the hero can get
back home to the ordinary world
|
|
Return home with the elixir (reward)
~the hero goes back to the ordinary world with what they won
as a reward or what they learned on their journey
~we see how much the hero has changed since the beginning of
the story

|
