Using Web Browsers and Search Engines

Use the following rubrics to track your progress throughout the year. Your goal should be to master each of the 'Basic' and 'Proficient' skills as soon as you are able. Then move on to the 'Advanced' skills.


Using Web Browsers (Safari and Firefox)

Here are some tips to get you started. We'll add a video tutorial soon.

  • Open the browser.
  • Enter CLC's web address in the location box.
  • Click on hyperlinks to move from web page to web page.
  • Use the Back and Forward buttons to move through your navigation path.
  • Print a web page.
  • Quit the browser (not just shutting the window).
  • Add the browser to your dock.
  • Set the Home button to open at our team's home page.
  • Save a web page.
  • Stop a web page from loading.
  • Refresh a web page.
  • Create a bookmark.
  • Customize your tool bar.
  • Block Internet ad pop-up windows.
  • Finding a word on a web page.
  • Set up 'tabbed' browsing.

Using a Search Engine (Google)

  • Open Google.
  • Insert a search term.
  • Open an image in full size.
  • Create a 'smart search'.
  • Create citations for images and web pages.
  • Save an image.
  • Use the Advanced Search option to customize searches.
