The One - One - One Rule
 The Rule:
What is a one - one - one word? It is a:
  • one-syllable word ends in
  • one consonant preceded by
  • one vowel

Wnen you have a one - one - one word, double the final consonant before adding a suffix which begins with a vowel. 

bat--batted --batting, --batter

prod--prodded, --prodding

Your Assignments:

1. Word List:
Write a list of 12 one - one - one words. Put them into a table like the one below. Then add the suffixes - be sure to follow the rule. Leave the column blank if it is not a real word.

2. Sentences:

Put 10 of your 1 - 1 - 1 words into grammatically correct sentences.

4. Spelling Test:

Use our spelling method to practice spelling your 1 - 1 - 1 words. Be ready for a test at the end of the week.

5. Turn in your work by Friday. Your packet should include your 1 - 1 - 1 chart, sentences, and spelling test.
