Spelling Safari   - el or - le - il or - al

 The Rule:

Guess what, there's no rule. You'll need to memorize the spellings of words that end in - el, - le, - il and - al. The only help that I can give you is that:

• words ending in -le are more common than words ending with -el
• adjectives often end with -al (-il is rare)

Your Assignments:

1. Definitions:

Pick 3 words that end with - le, 3 words that end with - el, 3 words that end with - al, and 2 words that end in - il. Look your words up in a dictionary. Write the word, part of speech, and definition for your 11 words.

2. Sentences:

Put each of your - le, - el, - al, and - il words into a grammatically correct sentence that shows that you understand the meaning of each word.

3. Spelling Test:

Use our spelling method to practice spelling your 11 words. Be ready for a test at the end of the week.

4. Turn in your work by Friday. Your packet should include your practice definitions, sentences, and spelling test.
