Short Film Project Guidelines

Task:

You and your production team are to create short film (less than three minutes) designed to educate, entertain, and inspire visitors as they wait in line for the main attractions.

Steps:

1. Meet with your production team. Brainstorm ideas for a short film including the main theme and what medium will be used, i.e.. claymation, actors, stop animation, puppets, blue screen...

2. Once your team has decided upon a topic an medium, write a proposal and submit it to the project managers (Kelly and Sarah) for approval. Your proposal should include:

  • title
  • summery of storylines
  • summery of its educational value
  • medium/techniques you will use
  • list of props/technology need

3. Once your proposal has been approved, write a script and create a story board detailing each part of your movie. Get these approved by the project managers. For more information on story boards go here.

4. Design props, backdrops and characters. Collect any materials and/or graphics needed for filming or editing.

5. Once you have competed steps 1-4, meet with the project managers to set up a filming space and time and acquire equipment needed.

6.Film. To learn the basics of filming, go here.

Upon completion of filming, download pictures and/or movie clips right away. Begin editing and then adding audio, music, special effects, transitions, and titles. Use the iMovie Help Menu if not sure how to do something. Make sure all group members have a chance to use the iMovie program.

Good Luck,

Project Managers
