These are the steps you need to follow when writing your article.
1. Choose a
topic Your topic should be
specific. For example, if you
write an article for our Nature Section, your topic
would not be: Siberian Tiger, but more focused like:
Saving the Siberian Tiger or Disappearing Habitat
of the Siberian Tiger. Your topic should
tell us exactly what your article is about. Get your topic
approved! If you cannot choose
a focused topic in a reasonable amount of time a topic will
be assigned to you.
2. Research your
topic Use your favorite
search engines or one of the following news agencies to
search for information. Centre
Daily TimesNew
York TimesNPRYou may need to
prepare interview quesitons and interview staff or
students. Be prepared to fill
out your organizer: Before you write
your article you must fill out the Organizing
Your News Article form.
This can be done on paper or in a Word Document. Don't forget, your
first sentence or two is your Lead and must contain the
information for the five W's. This is the introductory
paragraph of your news article. Get your
organizer checked!
4. Write your
article You should already
have all the information you need. Your Lead has
already been written. Your next paragraph or two should tell
the rest of the story. Use your
Supporting Facts and Quotes to give the reader
further details. Make your article interesting and
informational. Stay on
topic. Always keep in mind the purpose of your article,
the topic, and stick to it.
