Research Question Is there a relationship between a teacher's mood and student behavior. Hypothesis Comparing a CLC teacher's mood to his or her classes behavior, there will be a direct relationship between the two. When the teacher is in a bad mood, the students will be exhibiting bad behavior. When the teacher is in a good mood, the students will be exhibiting a good behavior. Bad mood and good mood will be measured through student assessment and be based on group-defined "indicators of mood." Student behavior will be measured through student assessment and be based on group-defined "indicators of behavior." .
Research Question This study seeks to answer the question, will there be a positive change in the students' intrinsic motivation when forty-eight 5th and 6th grade students are immersed in the project-based and technology-supported learning environment that the Centre Learning Community Charter School provides? Intrinsic motivation will be defined as; preference for challenge, curiosity/interest, independent mastery, independent judgment, and internal criteria, as measured by the sub scales of Harter's Scale of Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic Motivational Orientation in the Classroom. Research Hypotheses In general, for each of Harter's sub scales, we will be comparing the mean difference between the pretest and posttest for CLC students to the mean difference between the pretest and posttest for the norm group as reported by Harter (1981). A more complete discussion of each hypothesis follows. H1: "Preference for Challenge" Comparing the mean difference between pretest and posttest scores of Centre Learning Community students to the mean difference between pretest and posttest scores of Harter's norms, Centre Learning Community students will exhibit greater movement toward the intrinsic pole, or less movement toward the extrinsic pole on the "Preference for Challenge" sub scale of the Harter Scale of Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic Orientation in the Classroom. |
