1. Select a poet to research. Use this site to get started. http://yahooligans.yahoo.com/school_bell/language_arts/poetry/poets/2. Select three significant sources (books, Internet sites, encyclopedias) and print off, photocopy, and/or check out the resource. If you cannot find three significant sources, you must choose a different poet.
3. Read and highlight important information. Look out for information about your poet's:
birth date, birth place, family, education, early life, significant influences, shining moments, challenges, places lived during life, jobs held, marriage, children, significance of poems, important quote, and any other research areas that you feel are important4. Organize information (outline, graphic organizer, index cards).
5. Draft essay.
6. Revise and edit essay.
7. Turn in final project. Include a title page, essay, sample of poetry, picture of poet, and bibliography.
