POETRY SLAM

A poetry slam is a competition in which poets get up in front of the audience, perform an original poem and receive "Olympics" style scores from a group of judges.

Let's warm up for our CLC Poetry Slam!

1. Choose a theme such as love, pets, or friendship and write at least three short poems on the same subject using three different forms. You may write with a partner if you'd like to. Look back at our Poetry index page for help with different forms of poetry.

2. Select one poem to "perform" for the class.

The Rules:

1. You have 3 minutes to read your original poem. You may not use music, props, or costumes.

2. You will be scored on your performance (0 - 10 points). 0 points means that the poem was horrible. 10 points means that you and the audience thought that the poem was something very special!
